Arvelle’s knowledge and passion for quality improvement (QI) and redesigning healthcare to enhance patient outcomes began early in her nursing career. Her cross-system experiences have accumulated to over 25 years of designing, developing, and implementing evidence-based improvements and to garnering over $30 million dollars in funding.

Arvelle is a Faculty member for multiple provincial and international QI efforts. She has led the development and delivery of QI collaboratives and evidence-based system changes engaging thousands of Canadian and international primary and specialty care physicians and team members. Her collaborative approach to co-design and implementation of best practices has resulted in sustainable access, continuity, and clinical process improvements. Arvelle is a known, trusted, energetic and insightful leader. She has built capacity, transformed systems, re-energized providers and built supportive environments for individuals and families impacted by chronic diseases.

Examples of her work include the Patient Medical Home, Reducing the Impact of Financial Strain and the Primary Health Care Opioid Response initiatives in Alberta; MyQ Quality in Family Practice Program in Newfoundland and Labrador; and federal efforts aimed at integrated healthcare in federal correctional institutions. In 2016, she received a College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta Centennial Award, and in 2017 was recognized as part of the 150 Nurses who are pioneers of health innovation in Canada and around the world.
