Dr. Mike Davies, currently a healthcare consultant, has had a long career as a primary care physician, hospitalist, Chief of Staff, and leader, teacher, and consultant in healthcare improvement and practice management. As a leader in the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), he led major contributions to the electronic medical record system, quality improvement and clinic practice management resulting in VA being recognized as the top organization in quality and patient satisfaction in the United States for many years. Mike started VA’s first national access office, brought engineers into VA improvement efforts and led the establishment of Clinic Practice Managers. He led the implementation of VA’s “Medical Home” Collaboratives, wrote VA’s major access policies, and helped design numerous scheduling software applications. Mike consulted with and led or co-led over 50 year long practice improvement efforts in health care systems around the world, including over a decade-long effort in Canada. Mike authored or co-authored over 20 publications. He and his wife Sue have been married for over 40 years. They have 3 children, 6 grandchildren and many interests related to living the ranching life in Western South Dakota.
